What is the best way to play videos from my laptop through the TV?
The laptop is a Dell Latitude C840 and TV is a monitor Sony Trinitron CRT. The sockets on the TV are two RCA-style AV input on the front and back Scart. Plugs into the back of the computer are portable CRT / LCD out, one with "IOIOI" above it (I have not techy no idea what this means!), one parallel and next to it is one that shows a symbol of TV I presume the TV out socket. I have a TV out jack, so, with the PS / 2 plug style connection of portable one end and plug the other end with PS / 2 style socket, a phono-style yellow and black phono-style socket). What I am not sure is whether it is best to connect to through phone-style cable plugs into the television AV THR-Out to connect AV inputs on the front of my TV, or get a scart converter and use it to connect the TV-Out cable from my laptop to my TV. Advice please?
This is what I advise most people do when they ask me this (since I work at Circuit City). If your computer has an S-Video output, connect an S-video cable from your laptop to the S-video input on your TV. Connect the wires audio input of your laptop headphones to the audio input on your TV with a standard Y-cable. Your TV must have an S-Video unless over 13 years of age. Then go to the S-Video on the TV channel and you have it. Or maybe rent a projector would be easier if you do not have an S-Video on your laptop.
