Updating my PIII processor?
Hi all, I have a Dell Optiplex GX110 with 256 MB of SDRAM and a 733MHz PIII processor. I'll be doing some upgradeing. I am maxing out my motherboard 512MB of SDRAM, Installing a nVidia Geforce 4 128 MB PCI VGA graphics card, and I want to upgrade the processor and (Ie WHeR I have my question.) Pentium III processors found some online that I would buy that range from 1.13GHz and 1.5GHz. Now my problem is speed higher clock sells Dell Optiplex GX110 with 933MHz is. If I install one that is in the range of 1.13-1.5GHz, there is a possibility of overheating or my mother used to support it? Also some of the vi PIII processors said they were for laptops, what does it matter if I install a laptop processor in a desktop computer?
I agree with John S, BAC, you will not see much difference for the same money you'll save on the desktop of age, you can simply buy a brand new with a warranty of 1 year on a Walmart closing spring sale. Just keep the old system as a backup as it is ... then buy a new one dual-core processor and plenty of RAM installed for under $ 250.
