Why IEEE 1394 port for digital video signal to limit the length of the conductor to 3 m (16 ft)?
The reason I ask is that I can send analog video and audio signal from a camera 100 feet or more above RG-6 cable with no apparent signal loss. Please note: I am not an electrical engineer and I only know enough to be dangerous on these things so please be kind. Thanks a lot.
My opinion: The IEEE 1394 specification has certain parameters that must be met to maintain compliance with the standard. Propagation delay along a conductor is more 16 'causes the parameters to fall. Sure, you can probably send the signal through a longer cable, but with the degradation of the signal you can not see.
